Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers of all kinds & those who have taken on a mothering role. ✨💖✨ You don't have to identify as female to be in a mom role and your don't have to have human kids to be a mom! You could be a step-mom (hardest role ever!) or the creator of a project or business and you still have a mothering role to make it grow.
I'm a business owner and my kids have fur & 4 paws & sadly, 2 of them have passed in the last year. I didn't talk about it with clients and have been processing in on my own, but the first one was unexpected and broke my heart. The second one was kind of expected because she was 19 years old! Still. It is so hard to lose anyone you love.
I’ve also been taking care of people since I was about 10 years old. My grandmother had MS & lived with us so I took care of her after school so my nurse mom could work. As a holistic healthcare provider for 25+ years, taking care of people has become my vocation & avocation too. But self care is extremely important & part of homework I always give to clients; it’s something I do on a regular basis.
What makes you happy? What do you long to do? What do you do for self-care? What are 1 or 2 things you could do for yourself today? It could be as simple as sit with a cup of tea for 10 minutes or take a long shower or bath, or painting your toenails. Do it! It could be taking a yoga class or a dance class you've been curious about. Do it! It could be meditating for 15 minutes or more. Do it! Self-care is so important. It could be getting up an hour earlier just so you have some YOU time. Do it! As a mother, we cannot continue to give & give until our well runs dry. We have to fill the well up regularly, so we can continue on nurturing those in our care.
Today, Mother's Day, I am indulging in self care here, at home, on my deck, with what I call deck therapy. This wisteria-covered Japanese-style arch is my happy place, & where my husband & I were married. It smells soooo good out here. Wisteria & lilac is what I think purple smells like! So this is where I’ll be today, instead of hosting our regular Reiki Circle, doing deck therapy, yoga, & hanging with family. Wishing ALL mothers of ALL sorts a brightly blissed
beautifully brilliant Mother’s Day, from my happy place to yours. Take care of YOU!
